Winter Beauty Finds

In wintertime, the skincare requires a certain upgrade: we go for more generous, buttery creams and lotions, and tend to gravitate towards more feminine perfumes. For the skin, we are as fond as ever of the SK-II Facial Treatment Mask. Super effective, leaves you with deeply moisturised, glowing skin just after one application. SK-II Cellumination cream & essence boosts the luminosity of your skin, magically brightening the complexion. And for the lips, La Mer lip balm soothes, protects and prettifies your lips, plus it feels and tastes fantastic, too. Our best find this winter was the phenomenal Feminite du Bois by Serge Lutens, which we stumbled upon accidentally while on business in Paris. Frankly, have never been drawn to a scent like this: woody, musky, combination of violets, sandalwood, plums and cloves. 'This scent expresses the masculine side of femininity and vice-versa', they say.

Christmas Day

Having first snow on the Christmas day is such a lovely gift. Perfect weather for wandering around Frederiksberg Gardens, going to the skating rink or staying cozy at home - baking, eating and drinking hot chocolate. Luckily, we still have a little bit of cake left from our Christmas dinner last night. Hands down favourite was a simple yet so delicious Banoffee pie from the CuteCarbs danish baking blog: amazing combination of bananas, toffee and light cream (piskefloede), sprinkled with white chocolate. We also tested a new (japanese) recipe of Imploding Honey Custard Cake from the blog Lady and Pups: we found this one a little bit too sweet to our liking, and it might work better with a bit of lemon added to the recipe. Go for it if you are a fan of all things honey.
Enjoy the Christmas Day!

Good Morning!

Something healthy for a change: even if you are not a huge fan of oatmeal, this recipe is just so yummy and make you feel so healthy, that it will soon become a favourite in your household. We found it on an inspiring vegan food blog Oh She Glows: and just as promised, this one is a true power bowl. You soak it overnight (oatmeal, chia seeds, mashed banana, almond or soya milk and a bit of water), and in the morning cook it for a few minutes and add any toppings you wish - we even played with our favourites, peanut butter and dulce de leche. Divine.

THE best oatmeal chocolate cookies

It's official: we found THE best oatmeal chocolate cookie recipe. These beauties from Half Baked Harvest blog are soft and crunchy at the same time, loaded with best quality dark chocolate (we substituted chocolate chips with Valrhona) and are so delicious straight from the oven, that you wouldn't stop until the 5th, or maybe even the 7th cookie.. They are super easy to make, too, and will be a perfect treat for your loved ones during the holiday season. Enjoy!

Bæst Copenhagen: Foodies Delight

All photos by Bæst Copenhagen original website
If you love food - meat and pizza in particular - book a table at Copenhagen Bæst asap. Christian Puglisi's (of Relae and Manfreds) third restaurant opened in Noerrebro earlier in October this year, and we finally got a chance to dine there. Top notch quality, fantastic service, very Nordic interior, delicious aperitif and wines - we loved every bit of it. Best book a table 2-3 weeks in advance. Buon appetito and enjoy your Christmas holidays!

Julekager, aka Christmas Cookies

Have you done your Christmas baking yet? In Denmark it's a must-have activity during the month of December: everyone is making huge batches of julekager such as vaniljekranse, pebernødder, brunkager & jødekager. This year, we stepped out of our comfort zone, and decided to try a home-made version of the last two from the list. Brunkager turned out to be a messy affair, and we ended up with a batch of delicious chocolate cookies (with a very slight resemblance to traditional brunkager, but anyways). Jødekager, however, are a huge hit: easy to make, with a reliable result every time - we made a whole lot of them. What are your favourite Christmas cookie recipe? Have a good one!

Super Moist Orange Cake

Looking for pre-Christmas baking inspiration? This super moist orange cake instantly creates a festive atmosphere in the house: it smells incredibly yummy and happy. We used  this Beat and Bake Orange Cake recipe replacing two round cakes with a loaf pan. As recommended by one of the readers on All Recipes.com, we went for an orange glaze instead of the butter frosting, and it turned out delicious: combine 1/2 cup of orange juice with 1/4 cup sugar in a small saucepan; heat and stir to dissolve sugar; spoon glaze over hot cake - voila.

Fall Apple Bake

Beginning of fall this year has been rather busy, and we could hardly squeeze in any time for baking. Luckily, with abundance of our favourite fall produce, namely apples and pumpkin, we can find hundreds of recipes that do not require heavy time investment: our last Apple Bake took us just 15 min in preparation and another 15 in baking time. It's fresh, juicy, yummy and oh-so-easy to make.
All you need is>
- butterdej (butter, or puff pastry dough), 1 roll
- 4-5 apples
- tbsp of butter
- pinch of cinnamon
- 3 tbsp of powdered sugar (which can be replaced with honey)
- a handful of raisins and nuts

Preheat your oven to 200C. Cut apples into small cubes and caramelise them in a large frying pan: add the butter, sugar, nuts and raisins plus cinnamon until they are soft and juicy. Roll out the pastry dough. Spread the apples and roll the pastry. Give it 15 min in the oven and voila!
