French Connection Weekend

Having checked all the boxes from the 9 ways to know you're a french bulldog owner, we already knew the truth. And after last weekend, when George was reunited with his beautiful Mumma and sister for a couple of days, we realised just how hopeless the situation was: we want more Frenchies, we want them all:)

Sweet Eats

Copenhagen is booming with all things dulce: new ice-cream parlours, cupcake and pastry shops, bakeries, anything really you could wish for. Perfect timing for spring and summer, and upcoming wedding season: in search of a perfect wedding cake, we came across Charity Bakery (recommended by this sweet friend). 'Cake with a clear conscience. Delivered to your door', where 20 DKK for every cake you purchase, is donated to the charity of your choice. What a brilliant idea. We have just tried their chocolate cake: it's heavenly. Can't wait to try the other 3 x cakes from the menu.

Recently opened Bon Bon Ice at Frederiksberg Gardens is also a must-visit: the most amazing and surprising ice-cream flavours (rugbrod, for instance, is delicious!), plus their very own, made-from-scratch cones. Yum.

Last, but not least: delightful Karamelleriet on Jaegersborggade in Noerebro (foodie heaven street), where you can find mouthwatering hand-made salted caramels.

Destination Dubai

To be honest, we didn't expect to like Dubai. This was a last-minute, rather short vacation trip. Visiting Dubai a few years back on business didn't leave the impression of a place where one could relax. Yet here we are: fresh, recharged and so happy after our week-long break on Jumeirah Beach. It was heaven.

The area we stayed at, called The Beach, a walking distance from Dubai Marina, has everything: from delicious food in a myriad of nearby restaurants & cafes (including Le Pain Quotidien, Carluccio's, Paul's, Magnolia Bakery, Cheesecake Factory, Shake Shack, to name a few), to a long white sandy beach, with a view of Atlantis hotel and Burj Al Arab. The hotel, Sofitel Dubai Jumeirah Beach, had a fantastic level of customer service, the most comfortable bed, excellent lounge with an infinity pool. 

We absolutely loved the dessert safari (easily arranged by the hotel) and sailing trip around Marina and The Palm - must-have's while on vacation in Dubai. Long days on the beach and by the pool, walking by illuminated Dubai Marina at night - everything was easy, superbly comfortable and the weather was just perfect (+27-32C). Cannot recommend it enough for your winter break! We are definitely going back soon. 

Good Reads

Have you read anything exciting lately? Luckily, we came across not just one, but two really good reads: one based on a review in The Economist - the debut novel by Miranda July 'The First Bad Man', and the other accidentally picked up at Amsterdam airport - 'The Rosie's Project' by Graeme Simsion. Both have quite unusual narrators, and both were such a delight to read. The Rosie's project is more light-hearted, and as it turns out, is the new favourite book of Bill Gates. Give it a try - happy Sunday!

Christmas Day

Having first snow on the Christmas day is such a lovely gift. Perfect weather for wandering around Frederiksberg Gardens, going to the skating rink or staying cozy at home - baking, eating and drinking hot chocolate. Luckily, we still have a little bit of cake left from our Christmas dinner last night. Hands down favourite was a simple yet so delicious Banoffee pie from the CuteCarbs danish baking blog: amazing combination of bananas, toffee and light cream (piskefloede), sprinkled with white chocolate. We also tested a new (japanese) recipe of Imploding Honey Custard Cake from the blog Lady and Pups: we found this one a little bit too sweet to our liking, and it might work better with a bit of lemon added to the recipe. Go for it if you are a fan of all things honey.
